Pride Power Past Plymouth State, 174–99, on Halloween Night
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's swimming and diving team delivered a dominant performance on Halloween night, earning a 174-99 victory over Plymouth State University at the Regis Pool.
The Pride opened the meet with a strong showing in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Emma Tirri (Stony Point, N.Y.), Sophia Nylin (Malden, Mass.), Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.), and Sophia Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) captured first place with a time of 2:07.62.
In the 1000 freestyle, Regis' three swimmers turned in season-best performances from Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) (12:44.02), Vera Rivard (New Springfield, N.H.) (13:28.88), and Margaret Rivard (New Springfield, N.H.) (13:39.00).
Caruso paced the Pride with three first-place finishes, highlighted by multiple top-10 program marks. She won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.60, moving her to fifth all-time in program history, then took the 50 freestyle in 25.09, tying her for sixth all-time. Caruso closed her individual events with another win in the 100 freestyle, clocking 55.09 to move into fifth all-time.
Nylin added two victories, earning first in the 50 breaststroke with a personal-best 36.58, and following up with a win in the 100 breaststroke at 1:21.80.
Silva recorded a personal-best and first-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:14.62, while Vera Rivard continued her strong night with a season-best 6:35.28 in the 500 freestyle.
On the diving boards, Christina Dupre-Honda (Brookline, Mass.) impressed with a score of 138.85 in the five-dive portion before achieving a personal-best 205.40 in the six-dive event.
The Pride closed the meet with another victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Abby Parker, Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.), Hubster, and Vera Rivard took first place. Parker and Assamoi each turned in season-best splits in the 50 freestyle, with times of 31.42 and 28.56, respectively.
The Pride return to action next Friday, November 7, when they travel to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a 6 p.m. meet.
