Regis Men's Track and Field Secures Runner-Up Finish at GNAC Championships
STANDISH, Maine – Regis College Men's Track and Field secured a podium finish, earning runner-up honors with 118 points at the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship this weekend, where Ryan Sweeney (Lynn, Mass), Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.), and Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) each captured individual titles.
On the field, Sweeney captured the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 12.44 meters, while teammate Bryan Abreu (Haverhill, Mass.) finished just outside the top three, placing fourth with a toss of 12.28 meters. Charles added another individual title, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 40.74 meters, while teammates Sweeney and Ed Power (Lynn, Mass.) followed with fourth-place (33.35 meters) and fifth-place (32.83 meters) finishes, respectively. Rounding out the individual champions was Thuotte, who took first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.65 meters, setting a new program record. Thuotte then went on to claim second place in the triple jump with a mark of 12.72 meters.
Also on the field, Caleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) secured second place in the javelin throw, while teammate Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) finished just outside the top three with a toss of 47.32 meters. Sweeney also captured a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 36.15 meters, followed closely by Charles with a 35.44-meter throw.
On the track, the Pride saw three third-place finishes. Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) earned an individual medal in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.01 seconds. The 4x100 relay team, consisting of Zach Olayiwole (Marlborough, Mass.), Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.), Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif), and Thuotte, finished with a time of 44.39 seconds, edging out the next team by 0.54 seconds. Additionally, Kederson Pierre (Everett, Mass.) and Ben Myette (Hanson, Mass.) teamed up with Happenny and Stogsdill for the 4x800 relay, where they finished in 8:58.65, securing third place.
Next weekend, Thuotte, Margiatto, and Russo will compete at the 2025 New England DIII Outdoor Championships.
