Pride Come Up Short Against Westfield State in Non-Conference Action

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College men's soccer welcomed their second Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent of the season to Regis Stadium on Wednesday night, as the Westfield State Owls handed the Pride a 3-1 defeat.

For the Pride, Agu Silva-Olivera (Lunenburg, Mass.) netted the lone goal off an assist from Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.).

The Owls were led by Nick Parakilas, who tallied two goals, while Sonny Mazza added another. In goal, Marko Kononenko earned the win with three saves.

How It Happened

Westfield State wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just seconds into the match when Cairn Bright sent a long ball forward that Parakilas chased down and buried for a 1-0 lead.

Twenty minutes later, Mazza doubled the advantage with a strike to make it 2-0. Regis created chances late in the half, with both Haroun Mafhoum (Bellingham, Mass.) and Silva-Olivera nearly cutting into the deficit, but the crossbar denied their efforts as the Owls carried the two-goal lead into halftime.

Regis finally broke through in the 63rd minute when Stogsdill found Silva-Olivera in front of the net, who chipped it over the keeper to cut the deficit in half. However, Parakilas struck again in the 72nd minute to restore Westfield State's two-goal cushion, sealing the 3-1 victory over the Pride.
