WESTON, Mass. – Regis women's soccer hosted nationally ranked Tufts University at Regis Stadium on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek matchup. The Jumbos, ranked No. 21 in the nation, were led by Caroline Kelly, who tallied four assists to help power Tufts to a 6-0 victory over the Pride.
How it Happened:
Tufts jumped out to an early lead with back-to-back goals off corner kicks from Caroline Kelly, finished by Emily Nichols (2') and Lena Sugru (14'). Just a minute later, Kelly struck the crossbar, but Elsi Aires cleaned up the rebound to make it 3-0 by the 16th minute. Regis tightened up defensively from there, holding the Jumbos scoreless for the rest of the half.
Tufts struck again early in the second half to extend their lead to 4-0, but Regis keeper Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) made three strong saves to temporarily halt the momentum. The Jumbos would add two more goals before Regis generated late chances. In the 67th minute, Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) broke through for a shot on goal, but it was saved. Then the Pride nearly spoiled the shutout in the final minute when Meadow Comiero (Woburn, Mass.) delivered a perfect ball to Sofia Torres (Cumberland, R.I.), whose header was denied by a diving save—securing the 6-0 win for Tufts.
Inside the Numbers:
- Delaney Scanlon and Sofia Torres registered the Pride's best looks with strikes on net in the 67th and 69th minutes.
- Cassidy Van Cott made a career-tying 10 saves in the effort.
