Bautista's Header Lifts Pride Past Pilgrims
HENNIKER, N.H. – The Regis College men's soccer team hit the road this weekend for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against New England College, where the Pride earned their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Pilgrims.
For Regis, Nolan McMahon (White River Junction, Vt.) and Reynaldo Bautista (Miami, Fla.) each found the back of the net, with three different teammates recording assists. In goal, Chris Alcon (Cartagena, Spain) came up strong, stopping six shots to secure the win.
Anthony Aguiar provided the lone tally for the Pilgrims, while goalkeeper Lukas Tate finished with three saves in the effort.
How It Happened
McMahon opened up the scoring for the Pride, finding the back of the net with a header, flicked on by Grad-Transfer Michael Champagne (Wellesley, Mass.). In the 32nd minute Alcon would be called on to make a timely save from the Grim's Chase Gurtowsky to keep the game in Regis' favor, 1-0, to enter the half.
In the 51st minute, Reynaldo Bautista (Miami, Fla.) netted his first goal of the season, heading home a corner from Haroun Mafhoum (Bellingham, Mass.). The Pilgrims responded shortly after, as Anthony Aguiar delivered a laser from outside the 18-yard box that found the top right corner to even the score.
Alcon would make his presence felt once again in the 81st minute, saving a penalty kick that was destined for the bottom right corner. This save would end up being the deciding factor in today's matinee as the Pride would go on to win 2-1.
