Alexandra Rivera Selected GNAC Rookie of Week for Third Time

WESTON, Mass. - For the third time this season, first-year setter Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week after leading the Pride to two sweeps during a GNAC tri-match Saturday.

After collecting nine assists and three digs against Lasell last Tuesday, Rivera was needed for just one set against Anna Maria Saturday, finishing with 12 assists, three digs, and two service aces in the first set. Thanks to her solid decision-making throughout the opening set, the Pride posted a .480 hitting percentage as a team in winning the first set over the AMCATS.

Staying in the setter role throughout Regis' second match of the day Saturday, Rivera collected a season-high 35 assists along with two kills, one service ace, four digs, and one block assist to help the Pride sweep host University of Saint Joseph. As a team, Regis earned a .317 hitting percentage in the contest, believed to be one of the team's highest hitting percentages ever when attempting at least 100 attacks during a match.

For the season, Rivera is averaging 4.85 assists per set as she has split the setting duties during most of the first 18 matches of the season. Rivera previously earned GNAC Rookie of the Week recognition during the first two weeks of the year when she reached double figures in assists in each of the first five matches of her collegiate career, with that total of matches with 10 or more assists now at 12 contests.

Regis College (13-5, 6-1 GNAC) makes two trips to Rhode Island this week, starting Tuesday, Oct. 8, by traveling to Salve Regina University for a 7 p.m. start. The Pride return to conference play Friday, Oct. 11, at Johnson and Wales University, also beginning at 7 p.m.
