Pride Split Tri-Match on Higgins Court

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College Women's Volleyball welcomed Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) and Sarah Lawrence to Higgins Court today for their first home tri-match of the season. The Pride fell to Wentworth 3-1 in their opener but bounced back with a 3-1 victory over the Gryphons, improving their record to 2-4 on the year.

Regis vs. Wentworth

The opening set belonged to Wentworth as the Leopards capitalized on multiple Pride errors to take a commanding 25-6 win.

Regis responded in the second. A trio of kills, including two from Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.), helped the Pride double up Wentworth, 12-6. Three service aces by the Leopards tied things up at 12, but a Wentworth error followed by a Paulo kill put the Pride back on top, 14-12. The Leopards briefly reclaimed the lead at 16-15, but Regis answered with six straight points, capped by a Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) kill, to take set two 25-18 and even the match at one set apiece.

The Pride carried early momentum in set three behind back-to-back kills from Mola and Eva Catalanotto (Cheshire, Conn.) to lead 4-1, but a four-point Leopard run put WIT ahead. Regis managed to tie the score three times, but Riley Shoonmaker paced Wentworth with four kills in a five-point surge, giving the Leopards a 13-8 advantage. A string of Leopard errors helped the Pride climb back to within one at 17-16, but Wentworth closed with a pair of 3-0 runs to secure the 25-18 win in set three.

Set four was tight early until Wentworth rattled off four straight points to go up 13-9. A Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) kill slowed the Leopards' momentum, but they responded with multiple runs of three and four points to finish off the set 25-16 and claim the 3-1 match victory.

Regis vs. Sarah Lawrence

The Pride turned to game two of the day's tri-match looking to secure a win. In the opening set, Regis came out strong, capitalizing on early Sarah Lawrence errors and recording 10 team kills to cruise to a 25–16 victory.

The momentum carried into set two, though the Gryphons pushed back behind kills from Athena Kazos and a pair of aces from Eva Anderson, eventually tying the frame at 17–17. The Pride responded with an 8–2 run to close out the set 25–19, taking a commanding 2–0 lead.

Sarah Lawrence made things interesting in the third, jumping out to a 10–3 advantage. Regis rallied late to cut the deficit to 19–17, but the Gryphons held on for a 25–22 win to extend the match.

The Pride wasted little time regaining control, racing ahead 13–4 in set four. Sarah Lawrence battled back once again to even things at 21–21, but Regis refused to let this one slip away. Bella Karpicz (Berkley, Mass.) sealed the victory in dramatic fashion, recording a block before delivering an ace to close out the set 25–22 and the match.
