Pilgrims Navigate Past Pride on Senior Day
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College men's lacrosse honored its seniors this afternoon as they hosted New England College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Regis Stadium. The Pilgrims held the Pride to just two goals in the second half to defeat the home team, 18-8. The loss drops Regis to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in GNAC play.
Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) led the Pride offense with four goals and an assist. Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) and Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.) each added a goal and an assist, with Marsella also forcing four turnovers on the defensive end. In goal, Devin Hamon (Chicopee, Mass.) tallied 15 saves in a solid effort.
New England College's Thomas Norton powered the Pilgrims with six goals and two assists, while Henri Pfeifle chipped in four goals and three assists. Goalie Nate Finn made six saves to secure the win for the Pilgrims.
How it Happened:
- Nick Klein opened the scoring for the Pride before New England College responded with three straight goals. Klein netted his second of the day, and Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) closed the first quarter with a full-field clear that ended in a laser past the keeper, cutting the deficit to 5-3 heading into the second.
- Klein completed his hat trick early in the second quarter, before Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) found the back of the net later in the frame. Pfeifle responded with a goal that doubled up the Pride, 10-5, with 4:43 remaining in the half before both teams added one more before the break, sending the game into halftime with NEC leading 11-6.
- Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.) got on the board to start the third, but NEC took control with three different scorers contributing, pushing the Pilgrims ahead 15-7 going into the final quarter.
- The Pilgrims tacked on three more goals in the fourth quarter before Klein netted the final tally of the game, sealing an 18-8 win for New England College.
