Curran's Late Goal Not Enough As Women's Soccer Drops GNAC Opener

NASHUA, NH. – The Regis College women's soccer team opened up its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) campaign this Saturday, September 6th at Rivier University. Although the Pride put up a valiant effort, the Raiders would come out on top 3-2.

For the Pride, Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) and Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) each found the back of the net, while Leah Snyder (Hope, Maine) and Julia Benvegnu (Watertown, Conn.) provided assists on the afternoon.

Three different Raiders recorded goals in the victory, while Bailey Gatchell recorded an assist. In net, Olivia Rosario walked away with her first win of the season between the pipes.

 How It Happened

The Pride got straight to work in this one, having two shots and earning two corners within the first ten minutes. Despite these efforts, Rivier would make the first marking on the scoresheet as Lily Garey-Wright would net her first collegiate goal in the 19th minute.

Just ten minutes later, Amber Casner doubled the Raiders' lead with a strike over the outstretched arms of Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.), tucking the ball into the top-right corner. The Pride responded with a late push before halftime, forcing Rivier's defense into a pair of timely saves, but they would still head into the break trailing 2-0.

The Pride looked to come out of their deficit early, when Scanlon found the back of the net just three minutes in off an assist from Snyder. The Pride's goal wouldn't go unanswered though, as Drea Dwyer would find net in the 75th minute to reclaim her sqaud's two-goal cushion.

In one final push, Curran would score in the 86th minute, but it wouldn't be enough as Rivier held onto take the 3-2 lead on their home turf.
