Strong Second Stanza Guides NEC to Victory Over Regis

HENNIKER, N.H. — The Regis College field hockey team traveled north on Saturday afternoon for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against New England College. The Pilgrims used a dominant second quarter, scoring four goals, to propel themselves to a 6-0 victory over the Pride.

How it Happened

Regis goalkeeper Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) stopped the first two shots she faced, but New England College broke through just three minutes into the game with a goal from Adelaide Kelly. The remainder of the first quarter stayed quiet, but the Pilgrims found their rhythm in the second, netting four goals, including a pair from Kira Geddes, to take a 5-0 lead into halftime.

The third quarter remained scoreless, with Martone turning away both shots on goal to keep the deficit from growing.

Regis had a chance to get on the board in the 56th minute when Gabrielle Tolman (Rockland, Maine) fired a shot on goal, but NEC goalkeeper Amy Philbin made the save to preserve the shutout. The Pilgrims added a final goal in the closing minute to seal the 6-0 win on their home turf.
