Morales Delivers Game-Winner as Regis Defeats Rivier, 1-0
NASHUA, N.H. – On Tuesday night, the Regis College men's soccer team traveled to New Hampshire to face Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe, Rivier University, where a single goal proved decisive in a 1-0 victory for the Pride on Joanne Merrill Field. The win improved the Pride's conference record to 2-1 and their overall season mark to 2-5-1.
Rafael Morales (Manatí, Puerto Rico) scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute, with the assist coming from Nolan McMahon (White River Junction, Vt.). In goal, Chris Alcon (Cartagena, Spain) made two saves to secure the shutout victory.
How it Happened
The Pride had solid chances early on, with shots on target from Callum Park (Providenciales, Turks & Caicos) and McMahon, but both attempts were stopped by the Raiders' goalkeeper to keep the match scoreless. Alcon (Cartagena, Spain) saw his first action in the 27th minute, comfortably handling a low, central shot for a clean save. McMahon managed one more attempt before halftime, but Logan Clough came up with another save, sending both teams into the break locked in a scoreless draw.
Nine minutes into the second half, Morales broke through, finishing a pass from McMahon into the lower left corner to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. From there, both offenses quieted down, with Rivier managing two off-target shots in the 67th and 72nd minutes. With just over two minutes remaining, the Raiders made one final push, testing Alcon with a low shot to the left, which he stopped. Moments later, the crossbar denied another attempt, sealing a 1-0 conference victory for the Pride in Nashua.
