Pride's Season Comes to a Close on Day Two of Pod Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Regis College Softball's 2025 season came to a close this afternoon on the second day of pod play in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason. The Pride, the No. 5 seed from the South Division, fell to the North Division's No. 3 seed, Simmons University, by a score of 5-0. Regis wraps up the year with an overall record of 15-22, including a 7-11 mark in conference play.

How it Happened:

  • Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) got things started for the Pride with a leadoff single to left field, then quickly stole second to move into scoring position. A sacrifice bunt by Sydney Grund (Hamden, Conn.) advanced her to third, but Simmons pitcher Kinney worked out of the jam by retiring the next two batters to leave Burke stranded.
  • The game turned into a defensive battle through the next two innings, with the Sharks collecting two hits compared to the Pride's one.
  • Simmons broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Zoule led off the inning with a solo home run. Later in the frame, a two-run double extended the Sharks' lead to 3-0.
  • The Sharks added to their advantage in the fifth with a two-run single to left center, making it 5-0.
  • In the top of the sixth, Burke once again sparked the offense with a leadoff single. Grund followed by drawing a walk, and Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt. However, Kinney shut down the rally with back-to-back strikeouts to keep Regis off the scoreboard.
  • The Pride made one final push in the seventh as Lynsey Kay (Bellingham, Mass.) reached on an error and advanced to second on a steal. But Simmons closed the door, with their first baseman recording the final out to secure the 5-0 win for the Sharks.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, accounting for all three of the Pride's hits in the game.
  • Burke concludes her historic career as the Pride's all-time leader in both hits (166) and runs scored (103). She also holds single-season records in hits (56), triples (7), and runs (33).
  • Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) capped off her best season in the crimson and gold, finishing with 40 hits, 27 RBIs, and 17 runs scored.
  • Regis will graduate seniors Bianca Burke and Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.), along with graduate students Chloe Beland and Abby Erikson (Worcester, Mass.), all of whom made lasting contributions to the program.
