Regis Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short In Brandeis Invitational Finale

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Regis College women's volleyball team returned to action on Saturday, August 30, facing the Engineers of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the final match of the Brandeis Invitational. WPI earned a three-set sweep, dropping the Pride to 1-2 on the young season.

Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) and Eva Catalanotto (Cheshire, Conn.) paced the Pride with eight kills apiece, with Catalanotto also contributing three blocks at the net and Mola adding eight digs defensively. Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) directed the offense with 24 assists, while Isabella Seccareccio (Medford, Mass.) anchored the back row with a team-high 12 digs in the effort.

How it Happened:

The Pride got on the board early in the first set behind kills from Bella Karpicz (Berkley, Mass.) and Mola, while Beatriz Paulo (Newton, Mass.) and Catalanotto added key swings to keep Regis close. Midway through the frame, a Karpicz kill followed by a trio of Engineer errors sparked a rally as Regis cut a seven-point deficit down to just two at 13–11, but WPI answered with a strong run to pull away for a 25–17 opening set win.

Regis continued to battle in the second, with Mola  delivering back-to-back kills to keep momentum alive. Karpicz and Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) added timely points at the net, but despite the push, the Engineers used a balanced attack to take the second set, 25–14.

The Pride saved their best run for the third set, overcoming an early 5–0 deficit with a surge powered by Mola who delivered a kill and a pair of aces to deadlock the set at 17–17. Regis kept the pressure on late, with kills from Catalanotto and Mola trimming the WPI lead to just two at 24–22, but the Engineers closed out the match with a 25–22 decision, securing the 3-0 match sweep.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Isabella Seccareccio recorded her second match this season with double-digit digs, already matching her total from all of last year just three games into the 2025 campaign.

  • Eva Catalanoto had career-highs in kills (8) and blocks (3) in this afternoon's effort.

 Up Next:

The Pride will host Wellesley College for their home opener this Wednesday, September 3rd with a 6 p.m. start.
