Regis Softball Drops GNAC Doubleheader to USJ

WESTON, Mass. – Despite a strong effort, the Regis College softball team dropped both games of Thursday night's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader to the University of Saint Joseph, 11-2 and 7-2, at the Regis Softball Field.

Regis falls to 8-14 overall and 2-6 in GNAC play, while the University of Saint Joseph improves to 13-19 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Game One

  • The Blue Jays got on the board early, opening with a two-run single from Lorynes Suriel, followed by an RBI double from Gabby Marchial to extend the lead.

  • Alyssa Roberts added a single down the left field line to bring in another run, giving USJ a 5-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the second.

  • A sacrifice fly in the third inning tacked on one more for the visitors, continuing their early offensive momentum.

  • In the top of the fifth, Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) recorded three consecutive strikeouts to give the Pride a much-needed spark.

  • Regis responded in the bottom half of the inning with a double by Madigan Lawler (Branford, Conn.), bringing in their first run of the game.

  • The Pride strung together a few timely hits to keep the pressure on, but the Blue Jays continued to produce offensively, sealing the game with a final score of 11-2.

Game Two

  • After two scoreless innings, the Blue Jays put up four runs in the third behind back-to-back singles, starting with Kaitlyn Ouellette.

  • Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) answered with a triple to right center, putting herself in scoring position.

  • A single by Lynsey Kay (Bellingham, Mass.) brought in a run to cut the deficit to three.

  • With the bases loaded, a single from Gabriella Marichal extended USJ's lead.

  • Regis responded with a double play from Burke in center field to throw out a runner at home and stop the scoring threat.

  • Gabriella Blanchard (North Haven, Conn.) drove in her first RBI of the day, but the Pride couldn't close the gap, falling 7-2 in game two.
