Miele-DeFelice Lifts Regis to 1-0 Win at Gordon
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College field hockey traveled north to take on Gordon College at the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Fighting Scots.
For Regis, Anna Miele-DeFelice (Framingham, Mass.) scored the game-winner, while Hailey Ducharme (Millville, Mass.) provided the assist. Defensively, the Pride's back line helped Allayna Martone (Elkridge, M.d.) secure the victory.
On the other side, Allyson Stauffer was busy for Gordon, recording 11 saves in the effort.
How It Happened
The opening quarter was quiet, with the only action coming from a Gordon penalty corner and a single Regis shot, leaving the game scoreless after 15 minutes.
The Pride controlled play in the second frame, outshooting the Fighting Scots 7-1, but Stauffer stood tall, denying all four shots on goal to send the game into halftime still tied 0-0.
Two minutes into the second half, Regis finally broke through. Off a penalty corner, Ducharme sent the ball up top to Miele-DeFelice, who slipped it past the goalie for the game's only goal. Regis continued to press for insurance, but Stauffer turned away three more quality chances to keep her team in it heading into the final quarter.
Gordon opened the fourth with a shot wide of the cage, but that would be their best look of the period as Regis controlled possession the rest of the way to seal the 1-0 road win.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Pride defense was dominant, allowing only two shots the entire game, with neither one reaching the net.
- Anna Miele-DeFelice has now scored in back-to-back games, with today's tally marking the first game-winner of her career.
- Hailey Ducharme recorded her first assist in the crimson and gold.
