Pride Drop to Mount Holyoke in Season Finale
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team closed out its season on the road at Mount Holyoke College, where the host Lyons earned a 5–1 victory on their home turf.
Kailey Araujo (Acushnet, Mass.) notched the Pride's lone goal of the afternoon, while goalkeeper Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) turned aside ten shots in a strong effort between the pipes.
For Mount Holyoke, MJ Owens led the offense with a hat trick, pacing the Lyons to the win.
How it Happened
After having four shots blocked by the Pride defense, the Lyons finally broke through in the eighth minute, sneaking one past the backline to take a 1–0 lead. Martone stopped their next two attempts, but Linnea Alsted added another to the Lyons' tally, sending them into the second quarter ahead 2–0.
In the second frame, Martone added five more saves to her total, keeping the Lyons from extending their lead and holding the Pride's deficit at two going into halftime.
Seven minutes into the third quarter, Araujo cut the Pride's deficit in half when she found the back of the cage to make it a 2–1 game. However, just moments later, Owens struck twice in quick succession to restore their cushion and make it 4–1 heading into the fourth.
Mackenzie O'Shea (Sharon, Mass.) tried to narrow the gap, but Martone's counterpart turned her shot away. In the 52nd minute, Owens completed her hat trick with the team's fifth and final goal, sealing a 5–1 victory for the Lyons.
