Second Half Rally Lifts Regis Over Elms, 2-1

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team traveled to Chicopee on Saturday afternoon for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against Elms College, where the Pride mounted a strong second-half comeback to defeat the Blazers, 2–1. With the win, Regis improves to 9–7–2 overall and 7–4–1 in GNAC play.

Leah Snyder (Hope, Maine) and Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) each found the back of the net for the Pride, while Julia Benvegnu (Watertown, Conn.) provided the assist. In goal, Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) earned the victory, recording one save over 45 minutes of action.

For Elms, Jamie McDonough scored the lone goal off an assist from Emily Basua. Goalkeeper Sofia Rivers tallied 10 saves in the effort for the Blazers.

How it Happened

The Pride applied early pressure on the Chargers' back line, but it was Elms who struck first as McDonough slipped one past Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) in the 20th minute. Regis continued to press for the equalizer, but a series of off-target attempts and two key saves kept the deficit at one heading into the break.

After firing off eight shots, Snyder finally broke through in the 65th minute, burying the equalizer to even the score at 1–1. Van Cott came up with a crucial save to keep the game level before Benvegnu connected with Curran in the 80th minute for what proved to be the game-winner, securing a 2–1 comeback victory for the Pride at Leary Field.
