Fighting Scots Power Past Pride with Strong Offensive Showing
WESTON, Mass. --The Regis College women's soccer team played their first home game of the season today, September 3rd, versus the Fighting Scots of Gordon College. Although the Pride gave their best effort, it was no match for Gordon's high-powered offense, who defeated the Pride 5-0.
How it Happened:
From the opening whistle, the Pride found themselves on the defensive, relying on senior goalkeeper Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.), who came up with key saves in the 3rd, 20th, and 29th minutes to keep the match scoreless. Gordon eventually broke through when Ava Forbes-Smith capitalized on a rebound to open the scoring, followed by Eowyn Lapp extending the lead with a strike to the top of the frame. The Fighting Scots added one more before halftime to take a 3-0 advantage into the break.
The second half would be more of the same as Lapp would find the back of the net for the second time on the night before freshman Julia Evans (Phoenixville, PA) would score her first ever to complete the scoresheet.
The Pride continued to push offensively in the closing minutes, but Gordon's defense stood tall to guide a 5-0 shutout win over the Pride.
Inside the Numbers:
- Mazo and Van Cott combined for 9 saves on the night.

The Pride goes on the road this weekend to take on Rivier on Saturday, September 6th, at 11am.
