Pride Close Regular Season on Seven-Game Win Streak as Sights Set on GNAC Postseason

WESTON, Mass. — The Regis College women's soccer team pushed their win streak to seven as they closed out their regular season on a high note with a 4–0 win over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Three different members of the Pride found the back of the net in the victory, improving Regis' record to 10-7-2 overall and 8-4-1 in GNAC play.

Maeve Glavin (Norwood, Mass.), Mia Carll (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and Sienna Santiago (Brewster, N.Y.) each scored for the Pride, while Alexis Sherry (Salem, Mass.) added an assist. In goal, Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) earned the win to cap off the regular season.

How it Happened

The Pride had an early opportunity on a beautiful through ball from Julia Benvegnu (Watertown, Conn.), but Glavin's shot sailed just high to avoid any damage. Regis created another chance midway through the first half on a direct free kick from outside the box, but the attempt carried too much power, allowing the goalkeeper to watch it go over untouched. The Pride earned a corner in the final minute of the half, but the Monks' defense held firm. Those opportunities highlighted a quiet opening half that featured just one shot on goal for each side, sending the match into the break scoreless.

Just three minutes into the second half, Scanlon drew a hard foul in the box, earning a penalty kick. Glavin calmly buried the shot into the left corner to give the Pride a 1–0 lead. Carll doubled the advantage minutes later, following up her own rebound in the 49th minute to make it 2–0 in favor of the Pirde. Saint Joseph's nearly cut the deficit in half off a corner kick, but Van Cott made a routine save to preserve the two-goal cushion.

In the 74th minute, Santiago got her foot on an Sherry corner kick to add an insurance goal, before an own goal in the 87th minute allowed the Pride to cruise to the 4-0 victory in Weston tonight.

Inside the Numbers

  • With the win, goalkeeper Cassidy Van Cott has now gone six straight outings without allowing a goal.
  • Senior Maeve Glavin tallied her fourth goal of the season, setting a new personal best.
  • The Pride kept rolling, earning their seventh straight win - their best streak since 2005, as far back as current records show.

Up Next

With the win, the Pride cemented their place at fifth overall in the GNAC standings and will await the release of the final bracket to determine where they will travel for the GNAC Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, November 1.
