Saints Edge Pride 3–1 in GNAC Showdown

BOSTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team made the short trip into Boston for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against Emmanuel College, where the Saints remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3–1 victory over the Pride. The loss drops Regis to 13–12 overall and 6–3 in GNAC competition.

Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) and Eva Catalanotto (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Pride attack with 10 and eight kills, respectively, while also contributing four and three total blocks. Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) orchestrated the offense with 30 assists, and Isabella Seccareccio (Medford, Mass.) paced the defense with a team-high 13 digs.

For Emmanuel, Isabella Marquez powered the Saints with a match-high 17 kills, followed closely by Letitia Bossou with 15. Kason Huynh tallied a game-best 44 assists to guide the attack, while Scheala Nielsen anchored the back row with 22 digs in the win.

How it Happened

The Saints surged to a 10–2 lead before a kill from Catalanotto momentarily slowed their momentum. However, the Pride couldn't generate any rhythm of their own, as Emmanuel maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the opening set, cruising to a 25–12 victory.

In the second set, the momentum swung in favor of the Pride. Strong attacks from Fabiano and Catalanotto powered them to a 10–5 lead, and a run of four unanswered points pushed the margin to 16–6. Olivya Bush added a key kill, and a Saints error helped the Pride extend their advantage to 21–12. Though the Saints mounted a brief comeback to close within 23–17, the Pride shut the door as Paulo delivered a clutch kill followed by a Fabiano, Catalanotto block to take the set and even the match at one apiece.

Set three was tightly contested, featuring six ties and three lead changes before a Paulo kill and service ace put the Pride ahead 19–17. However, the Saints responded with a strong 8–2 closing run, fueled by four kills from Marquez, to secure the 25–21 win and take a 2–1 lead in the match.

A Bella Karpicz (Berkley, Mass.) kill gave the Pride an early 5–2 advantage, but the Saints battled back to even the score at 5–5 and again at 9–9. The Pride responded with a 4–1 run to create a 14–10 cushion. Later, a block from Bush and Karpicz pushed the lead to 17–14, forcing the Saints to call a timeout. The break proved effective, as the Saints came out of the huddle with three unanswered points to pull within one. The Pride rebuilt a four-point lead, but Marquez powered the Saints back into contention with a trio of kills to tie the set at 23–23, prompting a Regis timeout. The regroup, however, favored the Saints, who responded with back-to-back points to close out the set 25–23 and secure a 3–1 match victory over Regis.
