Strong Individual Efforts Highlight Meet at Norwich
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Regis College women's swim and dive team traveled to Vermont on Saturday to face Norwich University, where the Cadets earned a 148–85 victory over the Pride.
Sophia Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) had a standout day for Regis, opening with a dominant win in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 2:03.27 - a personal best that ranks fifth all-time in program history and 15.6 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Fellow first-year swimmer Emma Tirri (Stony Point, N.Y.) placed third in the event with a time of 2:31.26.
Caruso continued her strong performance with another first-place finish and personal best in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall at 57.20, good for 13th all-time in Regis history. Sophia Nylin (Malden, Mass.) followed in third place with a time of 1:10.81.
Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) claimed the top spot in the 200 IM, clocking 2:35.19, more than two seconds ahead of the next finisher - a personal best for the junior. She later added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:11.53). Nylin also earned runner-up honors in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:26.08, while Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.) finished second in the 50 freestyle (28.89).
The Pride closed the meet on a high note, winning the 400 freestyle relay as Hubster, Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.), Assamoi, and Caruso combined for a time of 4:14.34.
On the diving board, Christina Dupre-Honda (Brookline, Mass.) placed second in the six-dive portion with a personal-best score of 202.20, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. In the five-dive event, Honda-Dupre and Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) posted scores of 105.4 and 69.3, respectively.
The Pride return to their home pool next Friday, October 31, when they host Plymouth State University at 6 p.m.
