Senior Day Success: Women's Soccer Overpowers NEC 6-0
WESTON, Mass. -- It was a picture-perfect Senior Day as women's soccer capped off the celebration with a dominant 6-0 victory over New England College.
The Pride's offense was led by Mia Carll (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who had a pair of goals and an assist while Sienna Santiago (Brewster, N.Y.) also netted two in the victory. Julia Benvegnu (Watertown, Conn.), and Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) rounded out the scoring. Leah Snyder (Hope, Maine), Maeve Glavin (Norwood, Mass.), Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) all added assists on the afternoon.
How it Happened
In the 20th minute, Curran would send a through ball to Santiago, who ran on calmly and placed the ball in the bottom right corner to give the Pride the 1-0 tilt. Regis would follow up, adding another goal about 10 minutes later, when Carll would score her first career goal, from a well-placed ball by fellow freshman Snyder. Later, the Grims would try to even slate after Abbey Keyes took a shot through traffic off the corner, but Mazo made a diving save to keep her team's lead intact with under 12 minutes to go in the half.
The Pride went on to try and make it a three goal advantge, firing off four shots on target in the final six minutes, but the Grim's keeper and crossbar would save them from further damage, sending the game into the the break with the Pride up, 2-0.
Santiago notched her second goal of the game in the 55th minute off a helper from Carll to push the Pride's advantage to three. Then at the midway point of the second half, Mazo got the crowd and her teammates on their feet as she placed a free kick into the top right corner, pushing her squad's lead to four. Benvegnu got in on the fun in the 70th minute, netting her third of the season, followed by Carll's second of the game to sal the Pride's 6-0 victory.
