Men's Lacrosse Drops Midweek Matchup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Regis College men's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Pride drop to 3-10 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 7-6.

Seven different players scored for the Pride in the contest. Colin McGarry (Brookline, N.H.) led the team with six ground balls, while Jack Jaynes (Reading, Mass.), Dylan Slichko (Wynantskill, N.Y.), and Matt Cabassa (Weymouth, Mass.) each collected four. Slichko also led the defensive effort with a season-high three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Ryan Guerrette (Litchfield, N.H.) recorded 10 saves in net. For Johnson & Wales, two players registered hat tricks, and Matthew Bancroft led the defense with four caused turnovers.

How it Happened:

  • The Wildcats opened scoring to take an early 1-0 lead.

  • Regis responded with goals from Liam Donovan (Lynn, Mass.) and Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) to go up 2-1.

  • The Pride added three more goals to close out the first quarter with a 5-4 advantage.

  • Johnson & Wales answered with three straight goals to regain the lead.

  • Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.) scored off a pass from Cabassa to bring Regis within one at 7-6 going into halftime.

  • The Wildcats pulled away in the third, scoring four unanswered goals to go up 11-6.

  • Johnson & Wales added five more goals in the fourth quarter. Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) netted the lone goal for the Pride to close out the game.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Donovan recorded a season-high sixth goal.

  • Slichko set a season-high in caused turnovers (3) and matched his season best in ground balls (4).
