Regis Well Represented in GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – Three student-athletes from Regis College were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in its weekly awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Russel Rau (Westminster, Mass.) was named Men's Basketball GNAC Player of the Week for his outstanding performances in two conference victories against Emmanuel College and Lasell University. Rau went off for the Pride this week, averaging 31.5 points per game on 71.9% from the floor (63.2% from three) and 14.5 rebounds per game with 2.5 steals and collecting two conference wins for Regis. The senior captain started the week strong with 33 points, nine rebounds, and two steals/blocks apiece in a home victory over Emmanuel. Rau followed up with a 30 point and 20 rebound performance on its Senior day victory over Lasell, producing his seventh double-double of the season. He collected seven assists and three steals in that game as well. Rau is currently top-three in the conference in scoring, rebounds, and double-doubles.

Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.) earned GNAC Men's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Pride to key victories. Valdes registered 19 kills in a five-set win over Endicott and followed up with 18 kills in a 3-2 win against SUNY Potsdam on Friday, both critical to the team's success.

Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) was named GNAC Men's Volleyball Setter of the Week after his standout performances in non-conference action. Bucasas recorded 47 assists and four digs in a match against Endicott, and followed up with 52 assists in a victory over SUNY Potsdam on Friday.

Regis men's basketball will travel to face New England College on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 7:00 p.m., while the men's volleyball team will host a tri-match against Curry College and VTSU Johnson on Saturday, Feb. 8, starting at 11:00 a.m.
