Regis Drops to Bowdoin, 71-53

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Bowdoin College, 71-53, Saturday afternoon during the second day of the Autism Acceptance Classic held at Higgins Court.

Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the Pride with 24 points, seven rebounds, and one assist as he shot 9-for-16 from the field, including 5-for-8 from behind the three-point line. Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) contributed eight points with three assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Rau opened the scoring with a three-pointer from Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.), but Bowdoin would match his shot to tie at three. After leading with 14 points, the Polar Bears put together a 9-6 scoring run featuring three-pointers from James McGowan and Ray Cuevas to clinch the lead and finish the first half, 34-25.

Bowdoin put together seven points in addition to a three-pointer made by Cuevas at the start of the second half. Rau responded with a layup on a pass from Marcus Watts Jr. (Stamford, Conn.), just before making a three-point shot to be followed by a three-pointer from Tate Pike (Bellingham, Mass. ) closing the deficit 52-36. Bowdoin kept momentum going and was able to pull away with a victory thanks to consecutive free throws made and layups to finish with a final of 71-53.

Cuevas led the Polar Bears with 19 points, and five rebounds while shooting 4-for-8 at the three point line.

Bowdoin shot 39.1 percent from the field and 70 percent (12-for-15) from the free throw line, while Regis shot 76.9 percent from the free throw line.

Fisher College defeated Curry College 99-80, in the first game of the Autism Acceptance Classic on Nov. 16, at Higgins Court.

Regis College (2-1) will travel to face Worcester State on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
