Men's Lacrosse Falls in First Match of 2025 Season
FRANKLIN, Mass. – Regis College mounted a late offensive surge but was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 17-6 to Dean College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at Grant Field.
Dean struck first less than three minutes into the game when Manny Alvarez-Segee scored off a pass from Diego Alvarez-Segee. The Bulldogs enhanced its lead just over two minutes later on a goal by Diego Alvarez-Segee, assisted by Aidan McCarthy. Regis responded as Anthony Marsella (Johnson, R.I.) connected with Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.), cutting the deficit to one.
However, Dean took control, scoring seven unanswered goals to close the first quarter up 9-1. The Bulldogs added four more in the second, taking a commanding 13-1 lead into halftime.
Regis opened the second half with a goal from Cook at 14:15, but Alvarez-Segee quickly answered with his fifth tally of the game. Marsella found the net at 10:16 off a feed from Liam Donovan (Lynn, Mass.), followed by another goal from Cook, trimming the deficit to 10. Dean extended its lead to 16-4 by the end of the third quarter.
Despite outscoring the Bulldogs 2-1 in the final frame, the Pride couldn't complete the comeback as Dean secured the 17-6 victory.
Regis (0-1, 0-1 GNAC) will host Saint Joseph's College on Friday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m. Dean (1-0, 1-0 GNAC) travels to face Curry College on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m.
