Men’s Lacrosse Earns Third Annual Regis Power Award
WESTON, Mass. - Before the conclusion of its season in late April, the Regis College men's lacrosse team was presented with the third annual Regis Power Award, selected by Renato Capobianco, head strength and conditioning coach, for the top performance by a team within its strength and conditioning program.
"I'd like to congratulate the men's lacrosse team for taking their conditioning program and commitment level to a higher standard," Capobianco said. "All season (Head) Coach (Matthew) Sweeney would let me know how proud he was of how much work his team was putting in the weight room and how many athletes were going above and beyond their limits."
Starting in the fall, the men's lacrosse team continually posted personal best marks in various disciplines within the strength and conditioning program. The Pride used that work to open their competition schedule with three straight road victories on their way to a 7-7 overall record, the most victories in a single season by the team in seven years.
"This award is a credit to our guys and the commitment they have shown off the field. They have consistently put in the effort that is needed to improve as individuals and as a team," Coach Sweeney said. "The measurable growth is obvious in the numbers that they put up in the weight room, but the support, motivation, and camaraderie that they have for each other is maybe more valuable."
In the spring of 2022, Capobianco initiated the Regis Power Award and presented it to the women's volleyball team. Last year, the field hockey and women's soccer teams were co-winners as they conducted their non-traditional season workouts together and pushed each other to bring about improvement in both programs.
Regis College is a Division III member of the NCAA competing within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in 19 intercollegiate sports.
