Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Falling To Elms 3-1
Weston, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team returned to play this Saturday, September 20th, for a matinee against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Elms College, who used a pair of late goals to take the 3-1 victory over the Pride.
Michael Champagne (Wellesley, Mass.) had the Pride's lone goal off of a penalty kick.
For Elms, Dru Fairthorne and Jacobo Molina Ferrer each had a goal and an assist, while Leonardo De Moura had a goal and Camerson Pierre added an assist.
How it Happened:
Regis wasted no time in this one when in the sixth minute, Champagne let one fly from a distance, missing just high. In the 25th minute, Regis goalie Christopher Alcon (Cartagena, Spain) was called on to save a penalty kick out of the bottom right corner, keeping the gme scorelss before Elms would open the scoring in the 27th minute when Ferrer would find De Moura for the tap-in.
Moments later, Callum Park (Providenciales, Turks & Caicos) would find Haroun Mafhoum (Bellingham, Mass.) but the Blazers goalie would come up big, turning away the attempt to end the first half 1-0 in Elm's favor.
Ten minutes into the second half, Reynaldo Bautista (Miami, Fla.) would be fouled in the 18-yard box, earning a penalty for the Pride, which Champagne would step up to and score, evening this game at one. Later in the half, Alcon would be called on again to make timely saves, keeping this match deadlocked at one.
However, the 82nd minute, Elms would find their go-ahead goal as Fairthorne would finish a feed from Pierre. A few minutes later, Elms would put this one away when Ferrer would beat Alcon on a breakaway to seal Elms' 3-1 victory at Regis Stadium.
