Pride Men’s Tennis Picks Up First Win of Season
ORLANDO, Fla. – Regis College earned its first team victory of the 2021-22 season, defeating Wartburg College, 5-4, Tuesday morning in a non-conference men's collegiate tennis match at the USTA National Campus.
After Wartburg won at number three doubles to take the first point of the match, Regis pulled ahead 2-1 by winning the other two doubles sets. At number two doubles, Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) earned an 8-4 victory, and then Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) pulled out an 8-6 win at number one doubles.
Bienvenu and Torres quickly took care of their singles matches, winning in straight sets without losing a single game to increase the Regis lead to 4-1. However, Wartburg battled back, collecting victories in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles positions to tie the contest at 4-4.
At number three singles, Weiner was able to prevail in the first set, 7-5, before taking control early in the second set on the way to a 6-1 set victory, completing the straight set win and clinching the match for the Pride.
Regis College (1-3) is next scheduled to face Adrian College Wednesday, March 2, starting at 5 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
