Pride Men’s Tennis Earns First GNAC Win of Season
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College took two of three doubles sets and half of the singles matches to earn its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 5-4 win over Norwich University Tuesday afternoon in a men's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.
The duo of Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) earned their ninth victory in as many matches, 8-0. In the second doubles position, Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Brevin Frankel (Millbury, Mass.) picked up an 8-1 victory to help the Pride take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Torres extended his singles winning streak to eight matches, not losing a game for the second straight time as he won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Bienvenu also posted a straight-set victory as he did not drop a game in his contest (6-0, 6-0), improving his singles record this season to 13-0.
In the third singles position, Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) cruised through the first set and then battled back from an early break in the second set to complete the straight-set victory (6-0, 6-3), clinching the overall match for the Pride.
Regis College (6-7, 1-2 GNAC) heads to Newport, R.I., for a non-conference match against Salve Regina Thursday, April 14, starting at 4 p.m. Norwich University (3-3, 0-2 GNAC) is scheduled to host NVU Lyndon Wednesday, April 13, beginning at 3 p.m.
