Adam Bonica Named GNAC Rookie of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – After playing a key role in Regis College's three consecutive wins last week, first-year Adam Bonica (Quincy, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, February 10.
Bonica was a force on both offense and defense, finishing the week with 26 kills on a .500 attack percentage, averaging 3.25 kills per set. He also contributed 10 digs (1.25 d/s) and five total blocks, helping the Pride dominate in straight-set victories.
In Regis' 3-0 conference win over Elms College last Wednesday, Bonica added six digs and two kills. He followed up with a stellar performance on Saturday, recording 24 kills, four digs, and three block assists across two matches, maintaining efficiency with a .688 attack percentage against Curry and .571 against Vermont State Johnson.
This is Bonica's first GNAC Rookie of the Week honor in his debut season. So far, he has totaled 70 kills and 44 digs while appearing in 28 sets across nine matches.
In addition to Bonica's success, the Regis men's volleyball team set multiple records. Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) recorded 52 assists in a single match, the most in program history, while the team registered a record 68 kills against SUNY Poly on January 31. With the Pride's victory over Curry on Saturday, Head Coach Josh Anderson became the winningest men's volleyball coach in Regis history, reaching 40 career wins.
Now at 7-3 overall (1-1 GNAC), Regis will look to extend its winning streak to seven when it travels to Wentworth on Wednesday, February 12, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
