Bodhidatta Highlights GNAC Men's Volleyball Postseason Awards
WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced its Men's Volleyball postseason awards, with four members of the Regis College Pride earning recognition. Jay Bodhidatta (Bangkok, Thailand) led the way, being named GNAC Libero of the Year and earning a spot on the All-GNAC First Team alongside teammate Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.). Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) was selected to the Second Team, while Sam Segura-Suarez (Berwick, Pa.) represented the Pride on the GNAC All- Sportsmanship Team.
Bodhidatta anchored the defense for the Pride, leading the GNAC in both total digs (309) and digs per set (2.97)—ranking fourth and 13th nationally in those categories, respectively. The sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, was remarkably reliable in serve-receive, committing just 33 errors on 633 receptions. His standout performances earned him GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season. This marks Bodhidatta's first career All-GNAC and major conference award.
Brandon Valdes joined his classmate on the All-GNAC First Team following a breakout season in the crimson and gold. The sophomore racked up 292 kills—fifth-most in the conference—averaging 2.83 kills per set. He also led the Pride at the service line, tallying 48 aces, the third-most in the GNAC and a new single-season program record. Defensively, Valdes added 219 digs, 560 receptions, and 22 blocks, showcasing his all-around impact on the court. His strong performances landed him the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season while this marks Valdes' first postseason nod.
Tyrell Bucasas capped off his stellar career with a GNAC Second Team selection. The senior setter rewrote the record books this season, leading the conference with 835 assists—bringing his career total to 2,160, a new program record. He also ranked second in the league with 8.43 assists per set. Bucasas posted career highs in both kills (49) and digs (162) this season, highlighting his versatility. He was recognized as GNAC Setter of the Week earlier this year, and this marks the first postseason honor of his career.
Sam Segura-Suarez earned a spot on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team, recognized for his senior leadership during a historic season for the Pride. Regis posted a program-best 20-12 record and secured their first-ever GNAC home playoff game and postseason victory with a quarterfinal win over Rivier University. This marks Segura-Suarez's second consecutive appearance on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
