Regis Falls Short in 10-8 Loss to Chargers

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team fell to Colby-Sawyer College, 10-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Friday night. With the loss, the Pride drop to 7-8 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 9-6.

Regis saw three different goal scorers in tonight's contest. Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) led the way with four goals, while Molly Higgins (Weymouth, Mass.) notched a hat trick with three goals.

Higgins also led the team with four ground balls, followed by Melinda Carbone (Bedford, Mass.) and Retta Hattin (Hooksett, N.H.) who each collected two. In net, Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) recorded 15 saves and added three ground balls.

Colby-Sawyer's Heather Hanson paced the Chargers with four goals and one assist.

How it Happened:

  • Colby-Sawyer opened the game with five unanswered goals in the first quarter.

  • Regis responded with two goals in the second, trailing 5-2 at halftime.

  • Molly Higgins scored early in the third off a pass from Maddie Sainato (Hometown), but the Chargers answered back to make it 6-3.

  • The Pride added two more goals to cut the deficit to 7-6 heading into the fourth.

  • The Chargers extended their lead with two quick goals in the final frame.

  • Regis capitalized on a free position attempt late in the quarter, but their comeback fell short, ending with a 10-8 final.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Audrey Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied two assists and collected one ground ball.

  • Teal Galligan (Acushnet, Mass.) recorded one draw control, giving her a career-high six in her debut season.
