Avary Hall Hat Trick Leads to Season-Opening Road Win for Pride
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College controlled the action throughout most of the afternoon as the Pride took the lead for good midway through the first half and then extended their lead in the second half to earn a 4-1 victory over UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference women's soccer match on Friday, Aug. 30 at Cressy Field.
The Pride used their offensive speed to get behind the Corsair defense with Janet Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) connecting with Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) in the seventh minute as Hall scored the first Pride goal of the match.
The Corsairs responded quickly with an own goal after Lilly Jaeger gained possession after a clearance attempt, tying the match 1-1 in the 14th minute. The Corsairs continued their offensive pressure with three shots on goal but were unable to breakthrough with Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) in net for the Pride.
Regis's offense intensified throughout the match with Amasa-Titus finding Hall for another Pride goal to lead 2-1 into the second half.
Regis tacked on a pair of goals in the 54th and 67th minutes of action. Aleyo Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) earned an assist after sending a ball to goal scorer Delaney Scanlon (Dracut, Mass.) for the third Pride goal of the game.
The Pride kept the pressure on the Corsairs defense as Hall excelled on a breakaway to score the fourth goal of the match while earning her first career hat trick.
The Corsairs outshot the Pride, 12-9. Mazo made a career-high 11 saves, including eight saves while the match was tied or Regis was ahead by just one goal.
Regis (1-0) takes the field Sunday, Sept. 1, to face Wheaton College with a 3:00 p.m. start at Regis Stadium.
