Women's Soccer Shut Out By Emmanuel, 1-0

WESTON, Mass. -- Regis women's soccer found themselves back at Regis Stadium tonight for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against the Emmanuel College Saints. Emmanuel would come out on top, 1-0, bringing the Pride's season to 3-7-1, an 1-4 in GNAC play.

How it Happened

Julia Benvegnu (Watertown, Conn.) would open this game up, dribbling through the Saints backline before pulling it back and finding Mia Carll (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who shot the ball just wide to register the first shot of game in the14th minute. Shortly after, Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) would be called upon to stop the Saints first shot and keep the game deadlocked through 18 minutes.

Liz McCormick opened up scoring in 24th minute with a strike from outside the 18 that curled into the right side-netting to put the Saints ahead, 1-0. After Emmanuels goal, neither team would land a shot on goal for rest of half - Saints would be up 1-0 at the half.

Benvegnu would make another play for the highlight reel as she had a beautiful cross to start the second, slipping through the Saint's goalkeeper's hands, but there were no maroon jersey's to finish, keeping the Saint's lead in tact.

In the 64th minute Mazo would be called upon again, when Emmanuel would get their head on a cross, but Mazo would make the save to keep the Pride in striking distance.

A trio of corner kicks with 17 minutes to play from the Saints would end up with a shot on goal but the Pride's netminder would make another save to keep her team in the game.

The Pride had their best chance in 80th minute with a free kick right outside box, but a Saints blocked shot followed by a save from their goalie stopped any chance of an equilizer.

In the closing minute Lindsay Burnham (Bow, N.H.) delivered ball in box but the Pride were not able to captialize, solidifying the 1-0 Saints victory.
