Women’s Soccer Loses at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – For the third time in as many matches so far this season, Regis College scored the first goal of the contest, but Gordon College responded with three goals after halftime to defeat the Pride, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate soccer match at the Brigham Complex.

The match remained scoreless until the 35th minute when Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) dribbled around a defender and then slipped a shot past the Gordon keeper inside the left post for her fourth tally of the season. In the 43rd minute, the Pride drew consecutive corner kicks, but Hall's shot off the second opportunity sailed wide, keeping the score 1-0 at halftime.

Gordon (1-1) would notch the equalizer four-and-a-half minutes into the second half as Eowyn Lapp blasted a shot into the net off an assist from Ada Forbes. The Fighting Scots would regain possession and pressure the Pride defense, eventually earning the go-ahead goal as Kristi Dirico set up Francie Leffler.

Less than four minutes later, Dirico would corral her own rebound and dish the ball off to Forbes for the home team's third goal of the contest. Gordon prevented Regis from putting together a significant rally as the Pride were held to two shots in the second half.

Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) finished with 10 saves in over 79 minutes of action before Alison Jerram (Waltham, Mass.) saw her first career collegiate action, making one save in 10-and-a-half minutes between the pipes. Emily Bengtson earned the victory for the Fighting Scots as she was credited with two saves.

Regis (1-2) opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Saturday, Sept. 7, with a trip to New London, Conn., to face Mitchell College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
