Regis Unable to Convert Scoring Chances in 1-0 Loss

BRIGHTON, Mass. - Despite advantages in total shots and in corner kick opportunities, Regis College was unable to convert any scoring chances, as a first half goal by Simmons University proved to be enough in the Sharks' 1-0 victory over the Pride Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at Daly Field.

Simmons (3-8-3, 3-7-3 GNAC) struck first in the 18th minute as Cerys Balmer was able to send a shot into the lower right portion of the net, with Lauren Krupnikoff picking up the assist. The Sharks finished with three shots on goal in the first half, but the Pride could not put a shot on target even though they outshot Simmons overall, 6-4.

One of the best second half opportunities for the Pride came with about 15 minutes remaining in regulation off a corner kick play, but Regis's shot hit the post. As the clock ticked under three minutes, Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made a run on the right side of the field and blasted a shot, but it sailed just a bit wide left.

For the match, Regis outshot Simmons 12-7 and earned four corner kick chances while holding the Sharks to one corner kick. Cassidy Van Cott (Santa Monica, Calif.) made two saves in the first half before Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) took over in the second half. Simmons' Deanna Wild needed to make just one save on her way to a clean sheet.

Regis (7-7-4, 5-4-4 GNAC) heads to Henniker, N.H., to face New England College Saturday, Oct. 26, starting at 12 p.m. The Pride close the regular season next Tuesday, Oct. 29, with a home match against Elms College beginning at 7 p.m.
