Pride Drop Two on Day One in Florida
CLERMONT, Fla. – Regis College softball opened their 2025 season this morning at the Spring Games in the Sunshine State, playing a doubleheader against Penn State-Behrend and Alfred University. The Pride were defeated by the Lions, 11-4, before falling to the Saxons, 20-0.
Regis vs. Penn. St. Behrend
- Highlighted by a double to center field, the Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead.
- The Pride responded in their next at-bat, with singles from Madigan Lawler (Branford, Conn.) and Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) driving in two runs to trim the lead to 4-2.
- Trailing by four entering the fourth, the Pride cut their deficit to two (6-4) after a single from Gabriella Blanchard (North Haven, Conn.) and aggressive base running by Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.).
- The Lions extended their lead in the fourth and fifth innings, adding five more runs to secure an 11-4 victory over the Pride.
Regis vs. Alfred
- Alfred's offense exploded early, recording ten hits and 15 runs in the first two innings.
- In the bottom of the second, back-to-back singles from Francesca Licata and Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) put some pressure on Alfred's defense, but both runners were stranded on base, leaving the Pride trailing 15-0 at the end of the inning.
- Alfred tacked on four more runs before securing a 20-0 victory after five innings.
Inside the Numbers:
- Chloe Beland led the Pride in game one with a team-high two hits and one RBI.
- Gabriella Blanchard and Madigan Lawler recorded their first collegiate hits in this morning's game against the Lions, while Francesca Licata picked up her first hit in game two against the Saxons.
