Regis Softball Drops on the Road

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Regis College softball team dropped both games of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Simmons University on Wednesday night at the Daly Athletic Complex.

Game One

  • Simmons took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Zoe Soule's double drove in Leah Berdeen and Teagan Buckley. The Sharks extended their lead with two more runs in the third before sealing the 7-0 victory with a three-run, three-hit sixth inning.

Game Two

  • Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) recorded the first hit of the game, but despite contact at the plate from Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.), she was unable to score.

  • Simmons ignited its offense in the third, opening with a leadoff walk followed by an RBI single. A string of singles plated two more runs before Leah Berdeen stole home, giving the Sharks a 4-0 lead.

  • Regis responded in the fourth as Sydney Grund (Hamden, Conn.) singled down the left field line to drive in a run. A pair of Simmons' defensive errors allowed three additional runs to score, and Grund later came home on a wild pitch, tying the game at 4-4 heading into the fifth.

  • After two scoreless innings, Simmons delivered the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh, securing a 5-4 victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • With her third hit of the day in game two, Burke became the program's all-time hits leader, surpassing the previous record of 131 hits.

  • Burke and Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) each tallied two hits in game two for the Pride.

  • Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.) and Mel Rees both recorded doubles in the second game.
