Pride Split on Day Two in Florida

LEESBURG, Fla. – Regis College Softball recorded 12 hits and scored five runs in their 5-4 victory over Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) in game one, before falling to the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcats, 8-0. After day two of the Spring Games, the Pride hold a 1-3 record on the season.

Regis vs. Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.)

  • Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.) knocked in the first run of the game with a single to left field to give the Pride an early 1-0 lead.
  • An inning later, Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) drove in a run with a single to right field before Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) crossed the plate to put the Pride ahead 3-1.
  • The Knights tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third, and the score remained deadlocked until the seventh inning. There, Burke hit a triple to break the tie, and then scored for the third time on a wild pitch, giving the Pride a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Knights managed to score one more run, but with the tying and winning runs left on base, a fielder's choice ended the inning and the game, securing a 5-4 victory for the Pride.

Regis vs. SUNY Polytechnic Institute

  • SUNY Poly took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a double from Annabella Mondello, who later crossed the plate to score their second run.
  • The Wildcats added a run in the third inning, then registered four hits in the fourth to help bring around five runs and secure the 8-0 victory over the Pride in five innings.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Bianca Burke led the Pride in game one, going 4-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs, and driving in one RBI.
  • With her triple in the seventh inning of game one, Bianca Burke became the all-time leader in triples for Regis College Softball, with 12 in her career.
  • Mel Rees and Lexi Nichols each contributed three hits in the Pride's 12-hit performance in game one.
  • Gabriella Blanchard (North Haven, Conn.) recorded the only hit for the Pride in game two.

Tomorrow, the Pride will face off against Curry College at 2:45 p.m., followed by a game against Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m. at Hancock Park in Clermont, Florida.
