Pride Grab 8-3 Victory in Game Two Against Clark
WORCESTER, MASS. – Regis College softball traveled to Worcester to face Clark University at the Rooftop Fields Complex on the campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). The Cougars won game one 3-0, but the Pride bounced back in game two with an 8-3 victory, improving their record on the season to 4-8.
Game One
- The first four innings featured a pitchers' duel, with the Pride recording three hits and the Cougars tallying two.
- Clark broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth, as Emelie Spence drove in the first run of the game and later scored herself, putting her team ahead 3-0.
- In the sixth, singles by Lynsey Kay (Bellingham, Mass.) and Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) put runners in scoring position, but both were left stranded as the Cougars held their three-run lead intact. The Cougars went on to secure a 3-0 victory in game one an inning later.
Game Two
- Regis' bats were hot early, as Mel Rees put the Pride on the board in the first with a two-run homer to left center. Later in the inning, Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) doubled to left center to bring in a run before scoring herself, giving the Pride a 4-0 lead after one.
- The Cougars tried to respond in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded, but Sarah Cabral (Dartmouth, Mass.) made a key play in the outfield for the third out, stranding all three runners and keeping Clark scoreless after two innings.
- The Pride added another four runs in the third, with three of those coming off the bat of from Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.), extending their lead to 8-0. Clark responded in the bottom of the third with three hits that brought in three runs, narrowing the gap to 8-3.
- The score held over the next four innings, securing the Pride's victory and a split on the day in Worcester.
Inside the Numbers:
- Lynsey Kay recorded two hits in each of her at-bats during game one, while Mel Rees, Abby Erikson (Worcester, Mass.), and Kristen Galvin (North Reading, Mass.) each registered a hit.
- Gabriella Blanchard (North Haven, Conn.) pitched a complete game to earn her third win of the season in the Pride's game two victory.
- Mel Rees and Chloe Beland recorded three and four hits, respectively, in game two, marking their second outings this season with those numbers at the plate. Additionally, Bianca Burke's three RBIs in the game marked the second time this year the senior has driven in that many runs.
