Anderson Earns 100th Career Win as Pride Remain Unbeaten in GNAC Action
CHICOPEE, Mass. – An all-around team effort propelled the Regis College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Elms College on Wednesday night. With the win, the Pride remain unbeaten in league play at 5-0 and delivered head coach Josh Anderson his 100th career victory at the helm of the program.
Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) and Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) paced Regis on both sides of the net. Fabiano tallied team-highs with nine kills and five blocks, while Mola added eight kills and a match-high 15 digs. Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) directed the attack with 30 assists, once again anchoring the Pride offense.
How it Happened
The Pride came out strong in the opening frame, using five early kills to jump ahead 7-1 and force an Elms timeout. The Chargers responded with a small run, pulling within two at 11-9 after a Gibbs kill and a Regis miscue. Regis quickly regained control, however, with an 8-1 surge fueled by two kills from Mola and an ace. The momentum carried the Pride to a 25-16 first-set victory.
In set two, Eva Catalanotto sparked the Pride with a kill to make it 7-3, but Elms kept things close, taking advantage of a pair of Pride errors to trim the gap to one. Regis then found another gear, stringing together seven unanswered points behind three service aces from Gwen Arnold (West Hartford, Conn.) to take command and secure a 25-13 win.
The Chargers pushed back early in the third, pulling within one after a 4-0 run. But Regis responded once more, as a service error and a kill from Olivya Bush (Spring, Texas) ignited a seven-point burst that stretched the lead to 18-10. Elms made a late push to cut the deficit to three, but Bush stopped the rally with another timely kill, and Bella Karpicz (Berkley, Mass.) sealed the match with the final point to clinch the 3-0 sweep for the Pride.
