Strong Start Not Enough as Regis Falls to Endicott, 3-1

WESTON, Mass. – In a midweek matchup at Higgins Court, the Regis College women's volleyball team hosted Endicott College. The Pride opened strong with a first-set win, but the Gulls responded by taking the next three to secure a 3-1 victory, sending Regis to 6-7 on the season.

Beatriz Paulo (Newton, Mass.) delivered a well-rounded performance, recording a team-high 10 digs along with seven kills, three service aces, and two blocks. Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) paced the offense with eight kills while adding eight digs, and Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) guided the attack with 24 assists.

For Endicott, Ava Grace Dresback led the way with 15 kills, followed by Hadley Helenbrook with 11. Hannah Maguire ran the Gulls' offense with a match-best 30 assists and added 11 digs, while Abby Downs anchored the defense with a game-high 20 digs.

How it Happened

Both sides traded points early in the opening set until back-to-back service aces from Endicott's Maguire gave the Gulls a 9-5 lead. Regis battled back, and a pair of kills from Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.) helped the Pride reclaim a 17-16 advantage. From there, Paulo took charge, closing the frame with three kills and a block assist to seal the 25-21 set-one win.

Endicott responded in set two, jumping out to a 9-1 lead before a service error and a kill from Rivera stopped the run. Paulo cut the deficit to 16-8 with a kill, but the early gap proved too much as the Gulls pulled away for a 25-11 victory to even the match.

The Gulls opened set three in similar fashion, but kills from Mola brought Regis within 8-4. The Pride kept it close, and an Albers kill trimmed the margin to 11-9. Endicott answered with a 4-0 run and later a 3-0 spurt to create separation, eventually taking the set 25-16.

Regis battled again in the fourth, using a 6-1 run fueled by Gulls' errors to knot the score at 11-11 and force an Endicott timeout. The Gulls regained control with a 17-11 lead, but the Pride rallied late as kills from Mola and Albers tied the set at 19. Endicott closed strong, however, scoring the final six points to claim the 25-19 win and secure the 3-1 match victory.
