How it Happened

An early 7-0 run that showcased strong team play gave the Pride an 11-4 lead in the opening set. NEC battled back with a 5-1 run to close the gap to 17-16, but the Pride responded with another 7-0 surge, highlighted by a pair of kills from Avery Mola, to take control. Mola sealed the 25-18 set one victory with another powerful strike.

The Pride carried their momentum into the second set, opening with four unanswered points to take an early lead and extending it to 11-6 following a pair of Pilgrim errors. NEC rallied late, stringing together points to narrow the deficit to 24-22, but once again, Mola delivered the finishing blow off a set from Alexandra Rivera to close out the set 25-22, putting the Pride one set away from victory.

In the third, the Pride faced their first deficit since early in the match, falling behind 5-1 after an NEC run. They quickly regrouped, and behind a pair of Eva Catalanotto service aces, cut the lead to 5-4. A few points later, a six-point runcapped by two blocks from Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) pushed Regis ahead 11-6. The Pilgrims hung around, closing to within two at 14-12, but the Pride dominated the rest of the way. A strong finish, including six unanswered points, was capped by a Rivera–Karpicz block to secure the 25-16 set win and complete the 3-0 match sweep.
