Lasers Hand Pride First GNAC Loss in Four Set Battle

WESTON, Mass. – In a cross-town matchup on Wednesday night, the Lasell University Lasers handed the Regis College women's volleyball team its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss of the season, defeating the Pride 3-1. With the setback, Regis moves to 12-8 overall and 6-1 in GNAC play.

The Pride were led offensively by Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) and Beatriz Paulo (Newton, Mass.), who each totaled 13.5 points. Fabiano recorded 10 kills and a game-high six blocks, while Paulo added 11 kills of her own. Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) steered the attack with 29 assists and contributed a team-best 12 digs on the defensive end.

For the Lasers, Morgan Bogli led all players with 16 kills and 17 total points. Sydney Katz tallied 27 assists, while Andrea Aceituno and Madeline Caro anchored the defense with 20 and 15 digs, respectively.

How it Happened

The opening set featured back-and-forth action, with eight ties and three lead changes before a kill from Morgan Bogli and a pair of Pride errors gave the Lasers a 23-20 advantage. Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.) momentarily halted their momentum with a kill, but Lasell responded with two straight points to secure the 25-21 first-set victory.

Lasell carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 16-6 lead. The Pride chipped away at the deficit and made a late push behind an 8-0 run that included a pair of Albers kills and strong serving from Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.), closing the gap to 24-17. The Lasers, however, regrouped after a timeout and scored the final point to take the set and a 2-0 match lead.

Set three remained close early until a Beatriz Paulo (Newton, Mass.) kill ignited a Pride run, capped by a block from Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) and Eva Catalanotto (Cheshire, Conn.) to make it 15-10. Lasell pulled within two, but another Paulo kill pushed Regis back ahead 20-15. The Pride finished strong, closing on a 5-2 run punctuated by an Albers kill to claim the 25-19 set and extend the match.

The fourth set saw six ties before the Lasers broke through with six unanswered points to move ahead 19-15. Regis made one final push, capitalizing on three straight Lasell errors to cut the deficit to 22-21, but the Lasers held firm. A service ace from Sydney Katz sealed the 25-21 win and the 3-1 match victory for Lasell.
