Applying for a Job
Follow the steps below to begin your job search.
- Set your goals. Before you start looking for a job, consider these issues:
- Time frame: When do you want to start your job? Do you want to take some time off before starting your career?
 - Location: Are you willing to relocate for a job? If so, which places would you be willing to move to and which would you not? Do you want to stay close to home?
 - Career field: What field are you interested in working in? If you aren’t sure, visit the Choosing Your Career toolkit for guidance.
 - Pay: It is a good idea to have a sense of what an entry-level job in your field pays. You can find this information at salary.com.

 - Research the available opportunities. Students have found jobs in the following places:
- CAREERlink (click here for directions on accessing CAREERlink)
 - Regis Center for Internships and Career Placement (College Hall, room 209)
 - Faculty and/or alumni connections
 - Personal connection
 - Online: Website like indeed.com, and glassdoor.com are great places to start. There may also be job boards specific to your industry.

 - Apply for as many job opportunities as you can.
- Complete your resume and cover letter: For guidance on how to write a resume and cover letter, review the Writing a Resume and Writing a Cover Letter toolkits.
 - Follow up on every application: Call the organization one week after you apply to ask if they have received your application. Ask when they might make a decision and if it would be OK to keep in touch.

 - Interview You can view a list of common interview questions here.
- Prepare: Have a friend mock interview you before the real interview. Alternatively, you can schedule a mock interview session with the Center for Internships and Career Placement by emailing careerlink@regiscollege.edu.
 - Be sure to have follow-up questions prepared for the interviewer.

 - Accept the offer. Remember to be patient. Hiring decisions take time.
